Neolube No.2 is an ideal finish for model trains! In addition to producing a steel-like finish to valve gears and side rods, it is also a high-performing lubricant. If you’re looking for a perfectly finished model train with an authentic look, you should be looking for Neolube No. 2. In addition, Neolube No. 2 also serves as a blackening agent and vastly improves electrical conductivity. If you need further convincing to use Neolube for model trains, we have information that is bound to cross you over to the Neolube side of the track.

What is the composition of Neolube No.2?

Neolube’s product material has a composition that is made out of 99% pure furnace graphite particles, a thermoplastic resin, and isopropanol. It is a thin, non-corrosive film that has excellent radiation resistance and high chemical purity. It is easy to apply by spray, dip, or brush and has excellent adhesion after a fast air dry.

Neolube No.2 for model trains

When it comes to model trains, Neolube No. 2 can be used to blacken metal parts. It’s versatile and can be used for rails of track, steam locomotives, drivers and valve gears. Neolube No. 2 also serves as a lubricant for model parts, ensuring it runs smoothly. It is easy to use and can be applied with a regular paint brush. With so many benefits, it is easy to see why it is a popular graphite alcohol solution for model trains.

Why use Neolube for model trains?

1. It is easily applied

Neolube is a fast-drying paintable solution, making it ideal for easy applications. Although, used in the same manner as paint, it is a lubricant, hence why it is a non-oily residue – perfect for moving parts that you don’t want to mess up. It is also formulated to cure without the use of heat or activators. Higher temperatures will speed cure; lower temperatures will retard the curing process.

2. As a paint, it shines

If furnished, your model train will shine like polished steel with its use. Due to its adhesive technical properties, Neolube will not chemically blacken or harm your model train.

Note: It should be tested on surfaces first to ensure this. Optimum results will be obtained on clean fittings.

3. It is easy to touch up

If mistakes occur, Neolube can be rubbed off with effort. Cured products can be removed with a combination of soaking in a solvent and mechanical abrasion such as a wire brush. If touch-ups are needed, simply paint more Neolube over it and the model train will be as good as new.

4. It helps moving parts run smoothly

As a dry lubricant, it can be used on valve gears, rods, and their joints to help the moving parts to run smoothly.

5. It is non-corrosive

Ideal for its non-corrosive properties, Neolube has an advantage for model trains with regard to maintenance and longevity as it prevents seizing, fretting, galling, and resists abrasion.

6. It is durable

Neolube will provide a 40-year service life at ambient temperature not exceeding 122°F (50°C). It can be safely used to seal threaded pipe joints for approximately 1-year at a temperature of 250°F (131°C). Under non-nuclear (standard radiation) environments, the thermal stability of the sealant can be expected at temperatures up to 400°F. It contains no directly added Lead, Zinc, Mercury, Antimony, or Copper where such elements are leachable or could be released by the breakdown of the sealant under expected environmental conditions.

Need more convincing on why you use Neolube No. 2 for model trains? Give Huron a call and we’ll assist you right away!

The proper use of the injectable sealant Neolube No. 1260 is important to note when making use of this product in your nuclear factory. The following recommendations will help to ensure the proper handling and usage of this product.

Proper hygiene procedures must be followed

As with any chemically based adherent, good hygiene standards must be practiced. So, proper handwashing with soap and water when handling the product is always a good starting point to keep in mind when using Neolube No. 1260.

Proper protective clothing must be worn in a well-ventilated area. Respiratory protection should be used where there is insufficient ventilation when working with Neolube No.1260. Other protective clothing such as goggles, face masks, gloves, and non-slip boots should also be worn. Should accidental exposure occur, applicable first-aid measures should be administered. The following is a basic guideline of what should be done and when:

In case of eye contact (causing the eye to tear or if redness or discomfort occurs), flush out with water for up to 15 minutes. If the symptoms get worse, then medical attention should be sought.

If in contact with the skin, you should remove all contaminated clothing and wash the affected area with soap and water.

In case of ingestion, wash the mouth out thoroughly with water and administer a glass or two of water to the patient if required. Do not, by any means, induce vomiting and seek medical attention promptly.

If inhaled, remove the person into an area with good ventilation or into the open, and call for medical attention should the person experience any respiratory discomfort.

What to do in the event of a fire

In the case of a fire occurring in the presence of Neolube No.1260, standard fire-fighting methods should be employed to extinguish the flames using foam, carbon dioxide, and/ or dry powder. Firefighters on the scene should be aware of potentially hazardous gases that may be emitted and should ensure that full protective clothing and equipment is worn.

Proper Disposal of Neolube No. 1260

Proper disposal of waste by-products should be adhered to according to local regulations. Due to the insoluble nature of Neolube No. 1260 and to avoid any potential adverse effects on the environment through continuous disposal of the product in large quantities, waste materials should be disposed of in sealed, labeled containers. It is encouraged to reuse and recycle waste materials where you can.

Neoloube No. 1260 is a safe injectable sealant when used under the right conditions. As with any chemically- based product product-specific handling specifications should be adhered to as a precautionary measure to prevent any unforeseen or unnecessary accidents.

Neolube No. 1260 Tech is a superior lubricant paste and anti-seize compound. Used in nuclear factories, it is a durable sealant that can withstand the most severe conditions. Its multi-purpose functionality also makes it the more preferred effective bolt lubricant. If you are new to the product, it has many interesting properties and features.

A unique graphite-based pipe sealant

Designed to withstand extremely high temperature, this paste is specially designed with powerful graphite as its base ensuring that the substrate is lubricated effectively for a considerable length of time.

Where can it be used?

It is advisable to use Neolube No.1260 in an ethylene oxide service as it is incompatible to be used in an oxygen-only service where chemicals such as nitrates, persulfates, perbenzoate, and peroxides are used.

What makes Neolube No. 1260 different from other lubricants

Of the most noteworthy properties of Neolube No. 1260, its flexibility, compatibility, conformability, and resiliency come out on top. Its molding capabilities ensure that it coats even the hardest to reach places creating an effective, durable seal.

It is recommended for use on pipe joints in critical services that are small in diameter, and it will not harden or cure even after years of use under high temperatures. This handy benefit will ensure that if pipe joints need to be disassembled, it is a much easier process.

How to use Neolube No. 1260

Nitrile and Viton gasket measures are most compatible with the product while EPDM, Silicone, and Neoprene gaskets should not be used in conjunction with Neolube No. 1260.

Enable to last a minimum of two years from the date of its first application, it is long-lasting and therefore cost-effective, and comes with easy to use instructions.

Neloube No.1260 is a highly beneficial thread pipe lubricant with a high chemical purity and has excellent properties which include good thermal stability, low halogen content, and excellent radiation resistance, making it ideal for use in critical service applications.

Moly-99, also known as Molybdenum-99, is an extremely important radioactive isotope used in medical imaging to detect cancer and other potentially fatal conditions. With a half-life of only 66 hours, it decays rapidly and cannot be stockpiled for any other nefarious use. Its daughter isotope, Technetium-99m, with an even shorter half-life of only 6 hours, is currently used in over 40,000 medical procedures in the US daily. It forms a critical component of nuclear medicine.

Where is it produced?

In 2019, the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) selected four companies to develop a USA supply of Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) without using highly enriched uranium (HEU). This was designed to ensure a reliable source not dependent on the previous four reactors located in Russia, Belgium, Netherlands, and South Africa.

The production of Moly-99 was important to Huron because of the construction of four new research reactors or accelerators for this USA based production. Our Neolube family of products was used in this construction for pipe thread lubrication, anti-galling applications, and pipe sealing on threaded connections. It shows that Neolube pipe lubrication and sealant products have a strong place in research reactors, accelerators, and educational reactors in addition to the traditional power reactor nuclear segments.

Until recently, the production of Moly-99 was in scarce supply with only a few nuclear plants outside the USA focused on its production even though over half of the consumption of Mo-99 is in the USA. The other major issue was that the four reactors that did produce Moly-99 also involved the production of highly enriched uranium and were a nuclear proliferation and terrorism risk. The production in the USA was spearheaded in 2013 by President Obama with early research and program funding

Moly-99 in Nuclear Medicine

First used in the 1960s, Tc-99m produced from Moly-99 was injected into the patient’s body emitting gamma rays which were detected by gamma cameras which were then able to detect blocked blood vessels and cancerous tumors. It was considered a much safer alternative to other diagnostic tracers since patients were exposed to much lower levels of radiation.

Due to the short lifespan of Tc-99m (only 6 hours), much of it ended up being wasted. The time from Moly-99 production to the use of Tc-99m for imaging can be only 4 to 5 days, a very short supply chain. An alternative was patients having to be exposed to more toxic imaging agents which were more expensive and the patient’s exposure to higher levels of radiation. Moly-99 is vital to the current supply chain and having reliable, low-risk USA production is vital.

Moly-99 is currently the focus of even more production and distribution on a large scale around the world as medical practitioners seek to implement this highly sought-after imaging radioisotope.
